Robbie Graham
Robbie Graham describes himself as an ‘artist woodturner’.  With many years of production work Robbie has opened the ‘Wildwood’ gallery in Waitahanui and has developed a distinctive style of woodturned art pieces that have been enhanced with acrylic paint, inks, pyrography, texturing and carving. Nature is definitely an inspiration for Robbie Graham’s work.

Bryan Hawkins
Bryan Hawkins produces a range of items from miniature pieces through to larger items and he has developed an interest in embellishment.  His decoration techniques include texturing wood, gilding and the application of acrylic paint and inks.  Bryan uses native tim b ers and they are often recycled from their original uses.

Graeme McIntyre
Local artist Graeme McIntyre has a background in mechanical engineering design and a love of the outdoors.  Graeme specialises in thin wall turning to enable the piece to be pierced and sees woodturning as a way of releasing hidden beauty in the wood.

Hugh Mill
Hugh Mill has been woodturning for over 25 years and has also been a woodturing tutor since the mid 1990’s.  Hugh creates his pieces from native NZ timbers and attempts to reflect in them his Māori heritage and place in the Pacific.

Phil Quinn

Phil Quinn started in furniture and cabinet making, and began turning bowls, platters and vases.  He has now developed and widened his skills into embellishment inspired by nature, flowers, leaves and colour.  His techniques include paint application, dyes, stains, pyrography (pokerwork), texturing and recently free-form shaping and carving.

John Spittal
John Spittal has been working with wood for over 30 years.  John makes beautiful hand tools from wood, steel, bone and other materials.  All of the tools John makes are designed for fine woodworking.  John has a special interest in Medieval and traditional Asian and Canadian First Nation craft.  John’s designs also often incorporate Japanese Netsuke-like figures.

Jim Lowe
Jim Lowe currently runs the National School of Woodturning in Paraparaumu where he teaches at both beginner and master levels.  Jim Lowe’s woodturning skills extend into carving, resins and sandblasting Inspired by nature and his location on the Kapiti coast. His contemporary pieces use bright colours and sparkling resins.

Denis Newton
Although Trained as a fitter and turner I have always had a leaning towards woodturning.  I bought a new lathe in 1988, had a one day lesson  and became hooked.
