Guild fun at the Menzshed - July 2024

After repeated attempts in the Committee meetings to get some buy-in to have a Guild meeting at the Naenae Menzshed, your webmaster (that's me - Gordon) had to step up and actually organise what I was proposing. David Firth turned out to be the "ideas man" and helped with some materials and set-up at the shed.

So on Tuesday July 2nd, we had our meeting there and after some official blurb, we all got cracking into four friendly activities - using a handsaw to make a square cut, drilling a hole in a piece of wood (perpendicular in two directions) with a hand drill, creating the longest possible shaving with a hand plane, and turning a rough branch into a cylinder, making it as smooth and true as possible.

In just over an hour, we'd all finished each task and were ready for the judging. I did the saw-cuts, John Spittal judged the turning, Mark Wilkins did the drilling and I think David Firth did the plane shavings. Winners received a large chocolate fish for their efforts and it was a well-received change to the usual proceedings. Have a look at the photos below.
