Held the Special General Meeting to approve the constitution changes to retain Incorporated Societies registration. Happy to say it all passed.

David reviewed the NAW event held on the 25th May. It was a successful event with interesting DEMOs – some of which we are told will be available on You-Tube in the future. The exhibition contained over 220 pieces from around the country including 34 from GWW, and was fantastic.

The focus now needs to be on Pataka. Important dates are:

·         23rd June - Items Delivered to Pataka

·         Friday 27th June Exhibition Opens

·         Tuesday 1st July GWW Official Opening (Provisionally at 5:30pm)

·         Saturday 12th July GWW Demo Day

·         Sunday 10th August Exhibition Ends (Pataka will repack all unsold items)

·         Tuesday 12th August - Unsold items available for collection

Mark is organising for volunteers to mind the gallery and volunteers to provide demonstrations on 12th July (we do not have to provide minders for every day).

Neal Gandy bought along a chair that part of a set of 8 built in the US. The owner wants a table made in a style and colour to compliment the chairs.

Neil also mentioned he has access to large sheets of non-structural sheets of Particle board used for packing Meltika for shipping. These are suitable for lining a shed etc – contact him for further information.

The presentations for the evening were:

Nick Crocker recently attended a steam bending week at the Nelson Center for fine woodworking. He took us through the steps making the curved shelf including steam bending the main supports. His learnings – Oxalic acid is good for cleaning marks off wood, and using clingfilm helps retain the moisture in soaked wood prior to the steam bending process.

Eric Cairns presented the techniques used by Jasper Murphy to turn bowls and even cups on the Pole lathe using a mandrel to hold the bowl.

Show & Tell

Mike Robinson presented his spalted bowl
